Hey there!

I'm Aliza, a fashionista, travelista, and lover of anything pink! I am a born and bread New Englander; my home base is in Massachusetts, I summer in Maine, and I just graduated college in Rhode Island. My life (and style!) changed forever when this NE gal took on England in 2018. I loved exploring my London home and every weekend brought a new European adventure. Ever since I’ve been chronically ill with the travel bug and my fashion sense got an urban spin. I just graduated college and I am following my dream by pursuing a career in fashion! Follow my blog to watch me navigate post grad life, see what I am wearing, where I am off to next!

Functional & Fashionable Winter Uniform

Functional & Fashionable Winter Uniform

BRRRRR! It’s cold up here in Massachusetts! After the first snow that sticks and when the temperatures are in the single digits, this outfit is basically my uniform! It is just way too cold to wear anything else! I can’t leave the house with out my long winter coat because I will freeze without it and my Bean Boots because any other shoes will get ruined. Keep reading to hear all about my winter essentials, everything from my fleece lined leggings to my socks!

Ultralight Down Winter Coat

This year I upgraded my winter coat in preparation for this winter. I am so glad that I did! Before I had a winter coat from Uniqlo and I loved that it was made out of lightweight down; it was a game changer. It came with a little bag the the coat could fit in to, which made it so great for traveling. I was able to pack it away when I left for study abroad and didn’t have to wear a huge bulky coat on the plane like other people. The only problem was that it wasn’t very warm and when I was traveling through cold places, like Sweden and Scotland, I was a little chilly. New England is also super cold so I knew it was time for a new coat, but I didn’t want to leave behind the lightweight down.

When making my winter coat decision, I knew I needed to get one from a brand I trusted and specialized in outdoor wear. I love L.L Bean because they are Maine made and Maine based and make exceptional products. I decided to buy the Ultralight Down Hooded Coat and I absolutely love it!

First of all, it is SO warm and lightweight and that’s really all I was asking for. Here are some of the other pluses: Having a hood! My previous winter coat did not have a hood and it is a game changer. It keeps me extra warm on cold days when I forget a hat and is so awesome for when I am walking around my college campus that is always windy. It also has SO many pockets. The two outside pockets on the hips are fleece lined and I am always walking with my hands in them. They are kept so cozy and warm that I barely ever have to wear gloves. There are also so many hidden pockets on the inside of the coat too!

Bean Boots

My other must have winter essential! Whenever there is snow on the ground, these guys are on my feet. There are so many variations of Bean Boots that you can get, but I have the most basic ones and they work great for me. Why do I love them? Two reasons: One, the traction. No other boot is slip and fall proof like these ones. I have tried wearing other boots in the slippery snow and nothing keeps me up right like these ones am I am so clumsy (LOL). Two, they are exceptionally durable. If I wear any other shoes during the winter they will easily be destroyed between the salt and the wetness of the snow. The rubber on these boots are so durable and stand up to anything and everything. I have actually had these boots since my sophomore year of high school (yes I said high school) and they look basically brand new.

Fleece Lined Leggings - Alpine Valley Tight

If you are walking outside anywhere or doing anything outside for that matter, you need a pair of Alpine Valley Tights from Athleta. I have had mine for years, but while working at Athleta this year I learned that they are a super popular product because people absolutely love them. They come in a tight and a pant version and in three different colors (I have the black ones!). They are made out of Prima Loft fleece and they make you feel so cozy, like you are wearing sweatpants. Because of the fleece, they are a little thicker than your average legging, so I would recommend sizing up. The Alpine Valley Tights have one zipper pocket on the back waistband, but if you think you will need more pockets for all of the things, give the Ridge Tights a try. They have two zipper pockets on the front to fit all of your needs!

I wear these so often during the winter because they are amazing! Winter runs can sometimes be miserable because of the dropping temperatures. But if you wear these tights, you will be comfortably warm, while they wick away your sweat. I also wear them while walking my dog in the winter, shoveling my driveway after a blizzard, and underneath my snow pants while skiing. So many ways you can wear them!

Coaster Luxe Sweatshirt

A must have cozy essential and another super popular Athleta essential! The Coaster Luxe Sweatshirt is basically a cross between a lightweight sweatshirt and a heavier long sleeve shirt. Why I love it: the inside is beyond soft, I can’t even describe it! I also love how the sleeves have thumb holes, so it keeps your hands nice and toasty too! It is the perfect layering piece and the perfect thing to throw on to be cozy when you get home after a long day!

Camp Socks

You need a bunch of pairs of these socks from J.Crew because they are the perfect thing to wear with your Bean Boots. They are super warm knit socks and I love how the double stripes peak out of the tops of my boots. They come in a bunch of different colors, so you are sure to find a pair to go with all of your winter outfits. I am usually able to buy these guys during some sort of sale at either J.Crew or J.Crew Factory, so keep your eye out!

Hat & Scarf

I love adding an eye catching scarf to my winter uniform to make it more exciting. This outfit has a lot of neutrals, so on this day I added this beautiful pink and plaid scarf! As we all know, my favorite color is pink, so I am always trying to add it into my outfits because it makes me so happy. Recently, I have been wearing my scarves just draped over my neck because that way you can get the most pattern and color. I do wrap it around my neck though when it gets very cold and windy! This scarf is great quality and right now is on SALE! It also comes in a bunch of other colors and plaids.

This hat is from last year from Athleta and I wear it all of the time. Unfortunately, they do not sell the exact one anymore, but I am linking a very similar one here that is on sale for a great price. I brought it with me to study abroad in London, which if you have been reading my blog you probably already know that because it is in so many of my pictures! I’m all about the furry pom pom on the top!

This outfit is sure to keep you warm this winter! I find myself reaching for these pieces day after day because they are both functional and fashionable. Which piece is your favorite? Leave me comment to tell me!
