Gaga for Gingham
Thank goodness it finally feels like summer outside! It rained for 2 weeks straight in New England and I was getting a little worried that summer would never come. Some of you that live in warmer climates might think that I am crazy, but seriously, just a few days ago I was wearing a winter sweater, while sipping a hot chai from Starbucks... crazy right? I am so grateful for this nice weather, that I decided to celebrate with my favorite print for this season: gingham!
As you can tell from the title of this post, I have been gaga for gingham this season! I just think that it is so sweet, cute, and classic. Gingham is a timeless pattern, and in my opinion, it will never go out of style! It reminds me of when my mom would dress me up when I was little. Every summer, my family goes to coastal Maine, where people tend to dress pretty preppy. I was no exception when I was a kid, dressed in Lilly Pulitzer, seersucker, gingham, and lots of pink of course! Because of this, in my mind, I always thought gingham was a preppy sort of print.
However, now that gingham is making a strong comeback this season, I am realizing that it doesn't have to be worn in only preppy ways. This article shows different celebs strutting their stuff in gingham, but each one of them has a different style. I also love all of the different color variations, but my favorite is the classic navy and white. Whatever style route you choose, you can't go wrong with gingham! I wore gingham in an edgy way a couple of weeks ago in my Springtime (?) in Boston Outfit, when the weather didn't even feel like spring yet!
In contrast to my springtime look, this summer look definitely plays tribute to my style as a little girl during the summer, which makes me smile. I started my look with this gingham button-up, which I picked up recently (it's on sale!). I am in love with it because it can be worn in so many different ways and it is so soft and comfortable! I bought it to wear to my interior design internship this summer to look professional, but I can't wait to transition this piece to look more casual. I'm thinking jeans and maybe some fun, colorful, statement earrings (Instagrams to come I promise!!) I decided to pair my top with a white denim skirt (also something I loved to wear when I was an aspiring fashionista). The one I am wearing in the picture I got years ago at Vineyard Vines, but I found a similar white denim skirt , that my sister has and loves!
This picture was taken after I left my internship, so I was carrying my work bag. If you have a job or internship, you need a huge tote bag that you can fit your life in! My Longchamp is great because it can hold my Lilly planner, makeup, lunch, water bottle, and anything else I am carrying back and forth from the office. I also love that Longchamps have a plastic coating on the inside, which means when I spill something in it (which has happened more times than I'd like to admit), it's no big deal because it washes away and doesn't damage the bag. You definitely do not have to splurge for a Longchamp though, if you are in need of a work bag because there are so many affordable ones out there. Next to my Longchamp, my second favorite tote I got free at Bath and Body Works. This tote from Target is a steal and it's reversible (which I love)!!
I finished off my preppy gingham look with Steve Madden sunnies (similar) and of course, my gold Jack Rogers. No preppy summer look is complete without Jacks! I also love to throw them on with jeans or another simple outfit, and they automatically dress it up.
It makes me so happy that the weather is finally warm out because I can wear my summer clothes that are begging me to wear in my closet! I can't wait to share more summer outfit posts here on my blog, so keep your eyes pealed for more to come soon!
Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather as much as I am!
