Spice Up Your Spring Wardrobe: Pattern Mixing
Kids love pattern and color and want to pack as much as they can into one outfit. Because of this, I was taught to never mix patterns; pick one and you're done. But the pattern mixing trend breaks all of the rules of dressing myself that I was taught as a kid. You don't have to pick just one pattern anymore, it's actually cool not to! The key is to pick two patterns that have different layouts and designs (I paired horizontal stripes with cheetah print). You should pick one pattern that is utilitarian and then another that is crazy and more liberal. For you math people out there: utilitarian pattern + liberal pattern = pattern mixing perfection! Utilitarian patterns could include stripes, polka dots, and plaids and liberal prints could be florals, animal print, or anything loud and crazy! By picking one from each category, you create contrast and visual interest in your outfit, without looking like you got dressed in the dark. Mixing patterns can give boring pieces in your wardrobe some life. My outfit would be boring if I just paired by old striped t-shirt with black ripped jeans and a denim jacket, but by pairing it with my cheetah shoes, my outfit becomes cool and interesting just like that! Pattern mixing may seem complicated, but if you follow my formula, you are guaranteed to have a daring and darling outfit!
Next, I want to try mixing stripes and floral print because I think the two of them together will make the perfect spring outfit! Which patterns are you going to try and mix?
