How to Wear a (Faux) Leather Mini
When you hear "leather mini skirt" your mind probably doesn't automatically think "casual daytime outfit". Before leather mini skirts became my obsession, I had a stigma about them. Originally, I thought that they were tasteless and images of biker chicks popped up in my head. They can definitely look this way, but they can also look cool and chic depending on how you style them!
I love to wear mine both casually and dressed up, but the key to making them look classy is pairing them with something softer. To me, leather is hard and rough and gives off this vibe when you wear it. In order to soften my look up when I am wearing a leather mini skirt, I love to wear them with big, soft, chunky sweaters. Leather and a soft knit sweater are on two different ends of the fashion spectrum, but they come together to complete the perfect outfit. Here are some similar sweaters that would look great with a leather mini(Mine is from Banana Republic a few years back)!
Although sweaters are my favorite thing to pair a leather mini with, it is not the only thing! I have also created some super cute outfits with leather minis and different types of shirts. Flannels (like this one) are also something that I love to pair with leather minis because they are super soft and cozy. J. Crew has the best flannels are I love the "bright geranium blue" one paired with a leather mini and OTK boot for a holiday party! Light and airy blouses can also be a good option too if you want to dress it up!
I also just wanted to make a side note about wearing faux leather. I know that a lot of people think that wearing faux leather is tacky, but I am a strong believer in wearing as little real leather as possible. Nowadays, so much research has gone into developing real looking fake leathers and furs that they basically look and feel like the real thing. Not only are they cheaper, but they are better for our environment and of course animals.
Now lets talk about the shoes in this outfit! Over the knee boots are my new favorite shoes for the fall and winter! My favorite type are black suede ones because they look so dramatic and sassy when you wear them. They are also perfect for this time of year because they are so warm because they cover your knees! I remember last winter I would always chose to wear my OTK boots whenever it was freezing outside. I wore mine all weekend in Boston and they kept me so warm! Mine just have a flat bottoms, so they are super comfortable to wear anywhere! Some of my friends have them with a slight heal and I think that they are so cute too! Here are some of my favs :)
Hope you all enjoyed this post and are getting excited for the holiday season like me!
